The story

“A few days turned into a few weeks and a full-length album!”

Chevelle Franklyn, speaking in March 2020

Chevelle Franklyn went to South Africa to record two songs. That was the plan. The two songs became a full album, recorded in Johannesburg with South African musicians and collaborators, and sung in both English and Zulu.

She knew the country already. A 2007 tour there led to her 2008 album Shake It Off, which featured South African musicians. South Wind was first announced in 2020. The full album followed on 16 August 2024.

Of the music itself she told the press: “It is total worship, total exaltation, and admiration for God.”

  1. 2007First tour of South Africa. It led to Shake It Off the year after.
  2. 2020Go in Your Strength is released on 3 April, with the album announced alongside it.
  3. 2024South Wind, Vol. 1 arrives on 16 August.
